Exporting food, food ingredients, food packaging, dietary supplements, and food additives into the U.S. got more challenging. The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) provides a new level of public health protection for the American consumer and a new layer of requirements for those companies selling human and animal food products in the U.S.

The Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP), just one part of FSMA, requires U.S. importers to verify that their suppliers are meeting FDA safety standards. This could include compliance with a range of new standards, including “Preventive Controls for Human Foods (PCHF)"", “Preventive Controls for Animal Feeds (PCAF)"", and Produce Safety regulations.

What does that mean for your business? The answer depends on the size of the business and various other provisions. Sharon Mayl, FDA’s Senior Advisor for Policy to the Deputy Commissioner for Foods and Veterinary Medicine and EAS Consulting Group Independent Advisor for FSMA, Charles Breen, and EAS Independent Consultant Dr. Susan Moyers, Lead Instructor for the FSVP Training, provide an informative session, addressing the most pertinent compliance issues and answering those important questions of how the rule will be applied and implemented.
