Recent years have witnessed exciting developments in the food traceability regulatory landscape. Recent events such as European Union's Horsegate" scandal or United States' Peanut Corporation of America recall, now more than ever before, traceability has become a cornerstone of a comprehensive food safety program. Countries around the globe are attempting to build traceability capacity by introducing or strengthening food traceability requirements for the purpose of protecting public health and improving food security.

This session will provide a comprehensive overview of the global food traceability regulatory protocols and standards to set the stage. This will be followed by a presentation on the current gaps and discrepancies that exist across jurisdictions, providing insights into opportunities and challenges to cross-border harmonization. Finally, the session will conclude by providing a roadmap on practical and pragmatic application and implementation guidance on achieving food traceability harmonization through multi- stakeholder collaboration, cooperation and communication.

Through these series of talks, the audience will gain an appreciation on the realities and myths of food traceability standards, protocols and regulatory harmonization. More importantly, the attendees will take away practical actionable information on the best practices for food traceability to apply in their role and responsibility as a food safety professional.
